Reasons for Vitamin D Deficiency

There are many reasons vitamin D deficiency occurs including:

Not enough sunshine. Living in cold areas, staying indoors, and wearing long clothing including headgear, or having a job that requires you to stay indoors may make you vitamin d deficient. Vitamin D is made from the sun when your skin is exposed to the sun.

You have a dark complexion. People that are darker skinned are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency. Melanin a skin pigment is able to make vitamin D in darker skinned individuals.

Kidneys can’t convert Vitamin D. Inability for the kidneys to convert vitamin D to an active form, is a side effect of aging and vitamin D deficiency.

Digestive tract can’t absorb vitamin D. The foods you eat and can affect different medical conditions like Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, and celiac disease.

Obesity. People with a body mass index over 30 have vitamin D low blood levels. The blood fats cells where vitamin D comes from changes its circulation release.
